North Hills Volunteer Trail Work Day
April 13 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Help Conservation Lands Program staff complete their first trail project of 2025 – a re-route on the Mountain View trail! Connecting the Upper Rattlesnake to the North Hill’s Waterworks trail system, the Mountain View trail is a year-round destination for Missoula hikers, runners, and dog-walkers. This year, Missoula Parks and Recreation Conservation Lands Program staff will be re-routing an upper section of the trail to address vegetation damage, erosion issues, and to create a more enjoyable user experience.
Volunteers will work alongside staff to complete this trail reroute. The project will include digging new trail tread with hand-tools, ‘rescuing’ native plants that are in the path of the new trail, decommissioning the existing section of trail once the new reroute is complete, and planting salvaged plants and spreading native plant seeds into the decommissioned section of trail.
Volunteers will meet at Duncan Dr Soccer Fields (located at the intersection of Duncan Dr. and Mountain View Dr.) and walk to the project site. Conservation Lands staff will have gloves available and will provide all required tools for this project. Volunteers should come prepared for a morning of working outside – including plenty of water, sun protection, and snacks. Long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes are highly recommended.
